Maria B sends Rs100 million defamation notice to Türkan Atan over payment dispute

Legal battle escalates as both parties exchange notices; Pakistani celebrities take sides

Pakistani fashion designer Maria B (Maria Butt) has sent a Rs100 million defamation notice to Turkish influencer Türkan Atay following a public dispute over unpaid fees for a brand shoot. The controversy began when Atay accused Maria B’s team of failing to pay her the agreed $1,500 for managing a campaign shoot in Turkey, sharing alleged chat screenshots as proof.

Maria B denied involvement, claiming her PR manager mishandled the agreement. Atay then issued a legal notice demanding $8,000—covering unpaid fees, legal costs, and damages for “mental anguish.” In response, Maria B filed a defamation suit, citing “malicious” social media posts that allegedly tarnished her reputation as a philanthropist and activist.

The designer later transferred the disputed $1,500 but pursued legal action over Atay’s remarks, including accusations of exploiting “Palestine and Islam for business.” Meanwhile, Pakistani celebrities like Mishi Khan joined the debate, defending Maria B but facing backlash for dismissing the payment dispute as “chaar paisay.”

Turkan Atay has vowed to fight the case in court, stating she “will not back down.” Both parties have disabled Instagram comments amid polarized public reactions, with supporters on each side clashing over accountability and professionalism. The legal battle continues as Maria B seeks an apology and damages, while Atay stands by her claims.
