PTM leader arrested in Shangla sent to jail

Farmaullah, resident of Bely Baba had confessed to police the crime of narcotics smuggling and allegedly nominated Abdul Samad Khan

The Shangla police arrested Abdul Samad Khan, lawyer-cum politician, and leader of the banned Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) in a narcotics case and shifted to prison in Swat on Saturday.

According to the station house officer, police station, Alpuri a man was arrested with 900 gram hashish four days ago in Machar area of Alpuri tehsil who later stated to police in investigation that the hashish was provided to him by Abdul Samad Khan, resident of Bannu district.

SHO said the accused Farmaullah, resident of Bely Baba had confessed to police the crime of narcotics smuggling and allegedly nominated Abdul Samad Khan in it and the investigation team included the co accused Abdul Samad under section 9CNFA and arrested him.

SHO added that the accused Abdul Samad Khan was currently arrested by the Chitral police in the same nature case and they took him to Shangla and produced before the judge in Shangla courts who sent him to prison.

Waqif Shah advocate, president of Shangla bar association told The Northern Post that Abdul Samad Khan was a senior leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement and also a senior lawyer who had been the district president of the ANP in Bannu before joining the PTM.

The Shangla bar association president said that after the arrest of Abdul Samad Khan, the police produced him in the court and police had sought for this custody but he requested to the judge that the alleged accused was a guest and senior lawyer, send him to jail instead of granting his custody to police.

Mr Shah said the judge sent him to the district prison in Swat. The Shangla bar association and local leaders of PTM condemned the arrest of Abdul Samad Khan and termed it political victimization for holding Pashtun rally in Khyber district in October, last year.

Abdul Samad Khan was facing charged in same nature case in Chitral district and he was shifted to Shangla by the Shangla police after they recorded the statement of accused Farmanullah.
