Martyred PTI workers laid to rest in Shangla

SHANGLA: A young worker of the Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf was buried in his ancestral graveyard at Nusrat Khel of Martung tehsil here on Wednesday afternoon, the PTI activist had died during a clash at the PTI’s final call rally in Islamabad on Tuesday.

According to locals Tariq Khan, a PTI worker from Martung tehsil, Shangla district, died in Islamabad during a protest. He was run over by a car during the protest yesterday. Tariq was married and had a two-month-old son.

He had gone to Islamabad for the protest. Tariq Ahmed, son of Bakht Sherin, belonged to Martung tehsil’s Union Council Nusrat Khel.

The family and friends of Tariq are deeply grieved by his death. Provincial Assembly member Abdul Muneem Khan expressed deep sorrow over Tariq’s martyrdom during the Islamabad protest.

PTI District President Liaqat Yousafzai said that the martyrdom of Tariq Khan, a young worker from Martung Shangla, along with hundreds of other workers, is a great tragedy. He said that the sacrifices of these workers will surely bring about true freedom.

Liaqat Yousafzai also strongly condemned the arrest of PTI Shangla’s Senior Vice President Akhtar Chattan and General Secretary ILF Meer Alam Khan’s driver Gul Muhammad by the Punjab police.

Mr. Yousafzai stated that two PTI workers from Shangla were injured in the violence near D-Chowk in Islamabad and are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Shaukat Yousafzai, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former provincial minister, criticized the senior leadership. He claimed that no worker would have been killed or injured if the venue of the sit-in had been changed, as agreed upon by the party’s founder.

In a video shared with journalists in Shangla on Wednesday, Yousafzai said that most of the senior leadership was absent from the ground when they reached D-Chowk in Islamabad.

Yousafzai questioned why Bushra Bibi insisted on D-Chowk, alleging that she wanted to spark violence against Pakhtuns. He urged her to refrain from interfering in politics and instead follow Imran Khan’s directions.
