3 men sentenced to life imprisonment in Kohistan video scandal case

SHANGLA: District and session court Kolai Pallas Kohistan at Bisham district Shangla awarded life imprisonment to three people and acquited the rest of five men in the Kohistan video scandal case here on Thursday after seven years trial.
According to Public Prosecutor, Attaullah Khan, of the district and session court Kolai Pallas Kohistan, the district and session judge Kolai Pallas Kohistan Safiullah Jaan announced the verdict.
He said, Three men including Muhammad Umar, Saeer and Sabeer convicted for life imprisonment and Mehboob Ur Rehman, Abdur Rashid, Shams Ur Rehman, Sarfaraz, and Habibullah acquited of the case of the charges against them.
Muhammad Umar Khan is the brother of Slain girl Begum Jaan, Bazigha’s father Saeer Khan and Seerin Jaan father Sabeer Khan were among the convicts.
All the accused were brought to court from the jail amid strict security arrangments made from both Shangla and Kolai Pallas Kohistan police.
There were just two journalists but the judge did not allow to enter the court before and during the hearing.
Faiz Ur Rehman, the nephew of the main character of the case Afzal Kohistani, was the sole person present at the court during the hearing and he was appearing from the Afzal Kohistani’s party.
Outside the court, he told The Northern Post that his acquited rivals threatened him and asking why he appears in the case from Afzal’s party, he would be killed.
“I am not happy with the court decision, we will challenge the verdict in high court that why it acquited the five because they were involved in the murder of girls due to which my 4 uncles were killed, We are also receiving life threats from the Azad Khel tribe, the opposite party and our lives are at risk,” He said.
This correspondent tried to take a version of the accused and Afzal Kohistani’s rival party but they blamed media of defaming their honor and refused to talk media also threatening media personals.
After the verdict, a man from rival party threatened Afzal Kohistani’s nephew then police reached and took him in security and kept him for four hours in protective custody.
In 2012 five women were killed after a dancing video was merged through mobile phones and then a Jirga in Mansehra announced verdict that including the two dancing men and women clapping in the video to be killed as per local customs.
After killing women, three brothers of Afzal Kohistani were also killed at Gaddar village of Pallas Kohistan but Afzal Kohistan kept his struggle through the different courts to get punished the murderers of women and his brothers and eventually on March 6, Afzal Kohistan was shot dead at a busy bus stand in Abottabad.
Later on, his younger brother, who is dancing in the video Bin Yasir continue the cases and appeared in all hearings told The Northern Post via phone that he would be happier if the court convicts to all the alleged killers of my brothers and women.
Including Afzal Kohistani, 9 people have lost their lives in this internationally fame feud.
