At least 26 people drowned in the river when a pick up plunged into it after a wooden bridge broken at Barigo area of Kandia district upper Kohistan.
According to Chief warden civil defence, Ihsan-ul-haq, a pick was heading to Komela from Kandia and about 31 passengers including women and children were onboard, when it reached Barigo wooden bridge, the bridge could not bear the load and got broken, and the pick up fell into the river.
He said, five men in out of 31 passengers jumped from the pick up saved their lives but the rest of the passengers drowned.
Chief warden added that four dead bodies have been fished out of the river and search work is underway to fish out the dead bodies, including civil defence teams, police, locals are taking part in the operation.
He said, 4 women and 5 children were among the drowned in which four dead bodies fished out, while they were hailing from the same village Bagro area of Kandia tehsil Upper Kohistan and were close relatives.
