Book titled ‘Nafrat ki Daryaft’ launched in Islamabad

Prominent journalists, scholars, and activists say the book breaks cultural taboos by documenting the lived pain of a cybercrime victim.

The launch ceremony of renowned writer and columnist Ashfaq Laghari’s book “Nafrat ki Daryaft” was held at Black Hole.

Renowned journalists, lawyers, literary figures, scholars, and social activists were present.

While addressing the ceremony, renowned journalist Matiullah Jan, researcher and analyst Dr. Khadim Hussain, Syed Ali Hamid who works for peace and youth development, and Reem Sharif, an activist for the rights of the transgender community, said that this is Pakistan’s first literary effort in which a victim of cybercrime has presented their experiences, hardships, and observations in the form of a book.

Dr Khadim said that this piece of literature has a historical glimpse and evokes the literature of Qurat-ul-Ain Haider and Saadat Hasan Manto, while Matiullah Jan described it as a reflection of the struggle for justice under the PECA law. He said, “We must also listen to the stories of those who are the real victims of this black law”.

Syed Ali Hamid said that Ashfaq Laghari has set an example of boldness and sensitivity, because in our society, the pain and tears of a man are considered culturally prohibited to mention. However, a man also feels pain, he cries, and he has the right to tell his story.

Reem Sharif said while showing the interest of the main character of this book, ‘I am interested to know what happens to the main character, Asif, in the end. This is the kind of book that once someone picks it up, they will not be able to put it down without finishing it.

The ceremony was also attended by renowned writer Naseer Memon, senior journalist Qurban Baloch, Hussain Jarwar, lawyers, students, journalists, and representatives from various organisations, including Mehrgarh Islamabad.”
