Mardan cracks down on street slaughter and encroachments for city beautification

Commissioner orders butchers to use official abattoir, sets 10-day deadline to fix streetlights and expedite work along N-45 highway

Commissioner Mardan Division Nisar Ahmad has directed the concerned departments to ensure the proper functioning of the city’s slaughterhouse and to impose a complete ban on the slaughtering of animals in streets and residential areas.

Presiding over a meeting on beautification of city and plantation along the N-45 (Nowshera–Mardan Road), the Commissioner stressed that all butchers must use the official slaughterhouse for all kinds of slaughtering to maintain hygiene and civic discipline.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khattak, Secretary to Commissioner Fazal Wahid, Regional Municipal Officer Zeeshan Khan, ACR Dawood Khan, TMO Mardan and other relevant officials. The TMO informed that the damaged flower pots along N-45 had been replaced with new ones, while new saplings had been planted as per the Commissioner’s directives. The Director UADA also presented a progress report on the beautification work.

The Commissioner directed the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and the Urban Area Development Authority to expedite ongoing beautification projects along N-45 and ensure their timely completion. He further instructed the TMA to replace all faulty streetlights, particularly from College Chowk towards Nowshera Road, within ten days.

The Commissioner also directed the district administration to launch a full-fledged campaign against encroachments, both of temporary and permanent nature, to restore the city’s original beauty and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The meeting further reviewed traffic congestion and the issue of unnecessary U-turns on N-45. It was decided that a separate meeting would be convened next week to address traffic management and related issues.
