Jail police hawaldar threw High Court orders into Dustbin, says CM Sohail Afridi

Pledges support to judges who feel "disrespected," announces uniform education and new laws to probe security force operations

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi clarified in his address on Thursday that he came to the capital to ensure the supremacy of the judiciary, rather than for an election, which had been paralyzed by the 26th constitutional amendment.
The Chief Minister has announced the agenda of his future legislation, centering his speech on the injustices done to the judiciary. He also told about his struggle to meet his party leader and said that he sent a letter to the Punjab Government before going to Adiala Jail.
He said, “I was outside the Adiala when I got the call from the Prime Minister. I requested to arrange a meeting with him, too.” After the court’s order meeting, Afridi claimed a surprising act of defiance. “A jail police hawaldar stopped me and threw the order of three judges in the dustbin.” He also alleged that the same behaviour was observed with Qazi Faiz Essa, Journalist Arshad Sharif, and others.
Sohail Afridi directly addressed the judges and said, “If judges are saying that our decisions are not being respected, then they should come to us instead of writing letters.” He promised the full support of the legal community and reminded the audience that lawyers have played a crucial role in history in the pursuit of judicial independence.
While discussing government affairs, the Chief Minister has announced important steps. He confirmed that steps are taken to ensure an equal education system, so that a child from a poor and a rich background can receive equal education.
He also promised strong legislation to protect the people. “We are making laws for the protection of the common man. He also added that, “We are making such laws that if any common man dies during the operation of security forces, then there will be an investigation against it.”
At the end of his speech, he also appealed to form a united front with lawyers for an independent judiciary, media independence, and supermacy of the constitution and law.
