The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced two new electric bus routes, nearing the completion of work on the Zero Point Charging Depot, to promote sustainable transport in the capital city.
New routes will travel from Khana Pull to Nelopur and G-9 to Faizabad, which will increase the network of environment-friendly public transport.
According to the officials of CDA, 14 out of 20 charging points have been installed, and the completion of the merger process is expected to end in the next two days. After the depot charging points are installed, the issue of charging will be resolved in the city.
CDA official said, “In the next two days, the limited capacity building of charging points will be resolved after the completion of the integration process. We are expecting that the new two routes will start by Wednesday.”
Last year, the National Radio Tele-communication Corporation (NRTC) introduced 160 new electric buses to the capital; however, due to a lack of charging depots, many of the buses remained non-operational.
For now, 130 buses are operational on 21 different routes. CDA pays compensation to NRTC for every kilometre travelled by each bus.
The project of Zero Point Depot started in January 2025 in almost 1.5 billion rupees. This Depot has two parts – Site A and Site B. The work on Site B is expected to end by next month, which data centre is also included.
This electric bus is part of the vision of making the capital city sustainable and digital, under which a cashless one-window system was introduced.
