
Today, Lahore experienced heavy rain amid climate fluctuations, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to immediately initiate the drainage process throughout the city.
According to WASA, there were two spells of rain; the first spell lasted from 4:20 am to 5:41 am, and the second spell was prolonged, continuing from 10:29 am to 3:50 pm.
There was a prominent difference in the amount of rain in different areas of the city. More than 147mm of rain was recorded in Nishtar Town. Besides that, Lakshami Chowk and Upper Mall received 124 mm, Tajpura 120 mm, Chowk Nakhoda 121 mm, and Pani Wala Tallab received 116 mm of rain.
The amount of rain in different areas of the city was:
- Jail Road: 60ml
- Airport: 63ml
- WASA Head Office Gulberg: 85ml
- Mughalpura: 114ml
- Farrukhabad: 94ml
- Gulshan Ravi: 102ml
- Iqbal Town: 108ml
- Samanabad: 92ml
- Johar Town: 81ml
- Qartaba Chowk: 81ml
Overall, Lahore recorded an average rainfall of up to 102 mm.
Immediately after the rain, the Managing Director of WASA, Ghufran Ahmed, oversaw every step of the drainage process. On his instruction, Qartaba Chowk, Lytton Road, Shah Jamal, Waris Road, Copper Road, GPO, Nabha Road, Railway Station, Ali Block, Kareem Block, Bhatti Gate, Rasool Park, Wahdat Road, and Taka Chowk were cleaned immediately after rain.
MD WASA has instructed to clean all the pothole points on the streets and every primary, secondary, and tertiary road of the city, so that citizens do not face any difficulty.
