Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), In view of the recent monsoon situation has issued an alert of severe rain in various districts of the province. According to the information received by metrological Department and other related institutes, the intemitent rains will continue from July 20-25.
According to PDMA, Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Butgram, Bunir, Kohat, Kirk, Bannu, Tank, Lucky Marwat, DI Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu and Karam are likely to have thunder and heavy rains.
PDMA has also warned about flash floods in local and rain-fed rivers during July 22 to 25 in Galiat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan, however there is also high risk of landsliding in mountainous areas.
PDMA has advised the alert to Rescue 1122 and other relief institutions to utilize all available recources and also advised District Administration to take advance measurements. Arrangements have also been made to maintain the flow of traffic at sensitive places and main highways. PDMA has also advised to clean streams and drainage systems to avoid possible urban flooding.
Farmers have been instructed to harvest crops early and store them in safe places, while livestock keepers have been instructed to take measures to protect animals. People have been urged not to take shelter in open fields or under trees during storms, hailstorms and thunderstorms, but to move to safer places. Passengers have been advised to be cautious on national and provincial highways and take alternative routes. PDMA has directed all concerned agencies to communicate weather alerts to the public in local languages and keep alternative routes active in emergency situations. PDMA’s Emergency Operation Center is fully functional and in case of any untoward incident, the public should immediately report on 1700.
