Islamabad launches owner-based vehicle number plates

New policy ensures number retention for owners; unused plates cancelled after one year

Islamabad’s Exercise and Taxation Department has taken an important step for the assignment, exhibition, and allocation of vehicle registration marks.

The Director of Exercise said that Islamabad Excise will issue a number plate on vehicle registration, which will be linked directly to the owner. Islamabad Exercise has issued a notification for the execution of the owner-based number plate.

According to the notification, Islamabad Exercise will issue new number plates to transferred vehicles. The number will be associated permanently with the owner. The patent number plate decision will apply to the numbers before and after the notification is issued. While selling the vehicle, the registration number should be submitted to the Islamabad Exercise. The owner can own the registration number for a year without using the vehicle. According to Bilal Azam, Director of Islamabad Exercise, if a vehicle is unused for a year, then the registration number will be automatically cancelled. This notification is issued by Islamabad Exercise and Taxation.
