Pakistan braces for heavy monsoon rains; landslide risk escalates in northern regions

Heavy rain is expected in most parts of the country, with the Meteorological Department warning of potential flooding in some areas. Rain is anticipated across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Punjab, South Balochistan, and Eastern Sindh. The Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and North Balochistan are particularly likely to experience heavy rainfall.

Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in northern areas, including Kashmir and the Galiyat region. In Islamabad, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is forecast. Rainfall is also expected in Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Abbottabad, as well as in various districts of Peshawar and Kohat.

Urban areas, including Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujarat, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Lahore, will also experience rainfall. Further south, rain is anticipated in Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Multan, Layyah, Bahawalpur, and Jhang.

In Sindh province, rain is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Sanghar, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, and Sukkur. Light rain is predicted for Karachi and the coastal areas. Rain will also affect Barkhan, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung, Khuzdar, and Kharan. Finally, in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, rain with strong winds and thundershowers is on the horizon.
