Glacial flood hit Luxus hotel in Hunza Attabad

Despite sealing orders, hotel remained operational as rising temperatures in Gilgit-Baltistan

A glacial-triggered flood has hit the famous Luxus hotel located in scenic Attabad lake of Gojal in Hunza of Gilgit Baltistan.

The flash flood struck the the Luxus Hotel in Hunza. It caused damage to the land and gardens near the hotel. Rescue 1122 personnel and local residents transferred the hotel’s tourists to a safe location. Despite having received complete sealing orders, the hotel still accommodated tourists.

Temperatures are rising continuously in Gilgit-Baltistan, causing different drains to overflow. Besides Attabad, Aienabad Lake also overflows periodically. The Lexus Hotel and its nearby lands frequently face such conditions, but this time the drought proved disastrous for both the land and the hotel. This drain is known for overflowing. During construction work on the KKH, the lake often overflowed, damaging construction materials and other equipment.
