Relief from heatwave! PMD predicts widespread rains across Pakistan

Northern, Central, and Southern regions on alert as heavy downpours expected from June 20-25; afrmers and residents urged to take precautions

Pakistan Metrological Deparment (PMD) has forecast intermittent pre-moonsoon rains during from June 20-23. According to metrological department, humid winds will enter the upper and cetral parts of country from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. Also, western winds will also effect the upper parts of the country. The alert warns of potential heavy downpours, dust storms, and hailstorms in several areas, urging residents to take precautionary measures.

Under the influence of this weather system, duststorm, thunder, and intermittent rains are expected during June 20-23 in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sarghodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrawala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Faislabad, Lahore, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Swabi, Charsadda, Bajor, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kohat, Kurram, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan. Some areas might experience heave rain and hailstorm.

During June 21-23, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Qillat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Sahiwal will face sandstorm, thunder and heavy rain.

Sakhar, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, may receive heavy rain, thunder and hailstorm during June 22-24.

Authorities have warned the damage to weak infrastructures like electric poles, trees cars and solar panels in Islamabad, upper and central parts of country. The PMD has advised farmers to manage their crops according to weather conditions. Locals, tourists and passengers are advised to take precautionary measures. PMD has warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi/Islamabad.

While these rains will provide temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave.
