NAB summons PTI leader Azam Swati in Kohistan corruption scandal

Massive money trail links crores to Swati's accounts – arrest feared as NAB expands probe to family members

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued a call-up notice to PTI leader and former federal minister Azam Khan Swati in connection with the explosive Rs40 billion Kohistan corruption scandal, with sources warning his arrest may be imminent.

Documents reveal NAB’s Joint Investigation Team has ordered Swati to appear at its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa office on June 23 at 11 AM, demanding he bring complete records of payments received in 2024 from “Mrs. Kohistan Associates & Builders.” The notice warns of “strict legal action” for non-compliance.

Explosive findings show crores allegedly transferred from accounts of accused National Bank employee Muhammad Riaz to Swati’s personal accounts. “Evidence suggests Riaz purchased property from Swati, with suspicious transactions between their accounts,” an investigative source disclosed.

The scandal’s web continues widening as NAB:
• Obtains Torghar district records
• Prepares to interrogate Swati’s brother Laiq Khan
• Investigates 52 suspicious bank accounts
• Uncovers Rs3.47 billion in dubious transactions

This follows the Accountant General’s bombshell report identifying:
• Rs29 billion suspected embezzlement in Upper Kohistan
• 10 Finance Department officials recommended for disciplinary action
• 1,293 missing cheque records already with NAB

“NAB’s system only tracks authentic instruments – the fake cheques responsibility lies with National Bank and C&W Department,” stated the AG Office, distancing itself from the forged documents.

With PTI’s senior leadership now embroiled in what investigators call “one of KP’s largest financial scandals,” the case threatens to expose deeper corruption networks in the province’s development funds. Observers warn the probe could trigger political tremors as election season approaches.
