Double murder case concluded – convict Fazal Bacha gets life term plus 17 years in landmark judgment

The District & Sessions Court in Shangla, presided over by Judge Mumrez Khan Khalil, has issued a verdict in a high-profile murder case. The accused, Fazal Bacha, son of Khyber, a resident of Lilonai, was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs. 40 lakh as compensation. The court’s decision has been widely welcomed by the public, with legal experts praising the ruling as a significant step toward ensuring justice and reinforcing confidence in the judicial system.

The case involved the murder of a mother and son, while another victim—the son—was left severely injured and permanently disabled. Fazal Bacha was found guilty under multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and criminal conspiracy. In addition to life imprisonment, he was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 for attempted murder. The court also imposed an additional 10 years for causing grievous injuries and seven years for violating firearm regulations.

The case (FIR No. 398, dated September 3, 2022) was registered at Alpuri Police Station under sections 302, 324, 120-B, 337-A, 337-F, 336 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with 15AA of the Arms Ordinance.

This verdict marks Judge Mumrez Khan Khalil’s first major ruling since his appointment in Shangla. Local residents have expressed satisfaction with the decision, commending the judge for his commitment to justice. They also praised his proactive approach to administrative matters, hoping for further improvements in judicial processes under his leadership.

Advocate Waqif Shah represented the complaint in the case, ensuring a strong legal battle that led to this decisive judgment. The ruling has set a precedent, emphasizing the judiciary’s role in upholding justice and deterring violent crime.
