A nurse from Lakki Marwat, who was allegedly subjected to harassment at the Khalifa Gul Nawaz Medical Complex in Bannu, has died by suicide. The incident occurred on June 14, but the hospital administration has yet to issue any statement or press release.
According to the police, the nurse had recently been appointed to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital via an internship from Hayatabad Medical Complex and was performing her duties there. She was residing in the hospital’s hostel.
The nurse’s brother stated that he was informed in Islamabad that his sister had attempted suicide and was being treated in the ICU. When he arrived at the hospital with other family members, Alifat was unconscious and passed away shortly after.
In his statement to the police, he claimed that WhatsApp messages retrieved from his sister’s phone indicated she had been persistently harassed, leading her to take her own life in despair. He held the hospital’s Quality Manager, Ateeq-ur-Rehman, responsible for the incident and demanded action against him.
Police sources reported that the Township Police Station has registered a preliminary daily diary report and launched an investigation. A formal FIR will be filed once the investigation is complete.
Sources revealed that attempts were made to conceal the incident from the media, and even three days after the incident, the hospital administration has not issued any statement or held a press conference. There are suspicions that influential individuals may be involved in the case.
Civil society and local citizens have demanded transparent investigations into the incident and immediate action against those responsible.
