Hundreds stranded as landslide blocks Baltistan road
Among those stranded are foreign tourists visiting the scenic valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan

A massive landslide near Brundu has blocked the vital Shahra-e-Baltistan, leaving hundreds of tourists and locals stranded. The road, which connects Skardu to other parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, is a crucial route for travel and trade in the region.
Among those stranded are foreign tourists visiting the scenic valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan, a popular destination known for its breathtaking landscapes.
Shahra-e-Baltistan, previously called the Jaglot-Skardu Road, is a lifeline for locals and a key access route for tourists heading to Skardu, the gateway to some of the world’s highest peaks, including K2. Gilgit-Baltistan’s tourism industry thrives on adventure seekers, trekkers, and nature lovers, contributing significantly to the local economy.

In another incident, Deputy Commissioner Diamer, Captain (Retired) Atta-ur-Rehman Kakar, has ordered the closure of the Naran-Kaghan Road for all types of traffic from June 15 to June 18, 2025. This measure has been taken under the project supervised by the National Highway Authority (NHA) to make the Mansehra to Naran Mahandari Bridge road safer and wider.
The administration has appealed to local and foreign tourists to postpone their trips to Naran, Kaghan, and Gilgit-Baltistan during these four days or use the Karakoram Highway (Bisham Route) as an alternative. The Diamer Police Control Room has also advised the public to contact 05812-930037 before traveling to obtain the latest updates.
