Kelly Ripa’s NSFW empty-nester confession: ‘Total freak show all the time!

The ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ host jokes about post-parenting freedom with husband Mark Consuelos—plus their awkward moments with kids walking in

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos sent shockwaves through their studio audience when they revealed intimate details about their empty-nester lifestyle during a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. The beloved talk show hosts, married since 1996, didn’t hold back as they discussed their new-found freedom after their youngest child left home.

With all three of their children now adults – Michael (27), Lola (23), and recent University of Michigan graduate Joaquin (22) – Ripa described the transition with her signature humor. “The first one moving out is traumatic,” she told guest Amanda Peet. “By the second, you’re adjusting. But when the third leaves? After 48 hours of panic, it’s suddenly clothing-optional 24/7 in our house!”

Consuelos sat grinning as his wife continued: “Total freak show, all the time. We’re like feral animals now that we have the place to ourselves.” The audience erupted in laughter as Peet reacted with mock surprise, “Wow, good to know!”

The conversation took an even more hilarious turn when Ripa revealed their daughter Lola had walked in on them twice. “We’re hoping to stop having sex by the time she turns 24,” Ripa deadpanned, sending the crowd into hysterics.

Beyond the cheeky revelations, the couple shared heartfelt moments about parenting. They related to Peet’s struggles with her college-bound daughter, joking about how kids ignore parental advice. “I send mine articles about career success,” Ripa said, “and get zero responses. Though now they’re finally admitting we were right about everything!”

The episode also touched on Joaquin’s recent graduation, which Ripa called “bittersweet.” She described the family’s celebration in Ann Arbor, where Lola flew in from London to watch her brother perform in a theater showcase. “We’re so proud,” Ripa said, before joking about obligatory graduation photos: “By the third kid, we’re just going through the motions for the camera.”

Throughout the segment, Ripa and Consuelos showcased the perfect blend of humor and honesty that’s made them America’s favorite morning show couple. Their willingness to share both the ridiculous and real moments of marriage and parenting – from accidental walk-ins to proud graduation moments – continues to endear them to millions of viewers.

As Ripa put it: “People think empty nesting is sad, but honestly? We’re having the time of our lives rediscovering each other – clothes optional!” The audience’s roaring applause proved America can’t get enough of this refreshingly honest celebrity couple.
