A young man from Chitral’s Torkho region married two girls at the same time in an unexpected turn of events. Sartaj Ahmed, a resident of Sourich, had allegedly eloped with one girl to marry her, only to find another girl already waiting at his home for the same purpose.
Both women claimed they had been in regular phone contact with Ahmed and that he had promised to marry each of them. When neither agreed to leave, the village elders intervened and facilitated a simultaneous Nikah ceremony for both brides.
