In a brazen terrorist attack early Wednesday, two police officers were martyred and another injured after militants targeted a checkpost in Bannu’s New Sabzi Mandi area. Officials reported that the attackers first detonated explosives at the checkpost’s main gate, causing significant damage and collapsing a nearby electricity transformer, cutting off power. The assailants then stormed the post and opened fire.
Police retaliated swiftly, engaging the terrorists in a gunfight and reportedly inflicting casualties on the attackers. A search operation, led by DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan and DPO Saleem Abbas Kalachi, is underway to track down the remaining militants.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, praising the sacrifices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in the fight against terrorism. He expressed condolences to the families of the martyred officers and assured that the government stands firmly with law enforcement.
This incident follows another tragic attack in Khuzdar, where a school bus blast killed three children and two teachers, sparking nationwide outrage. Security has been heightened in Bannu as authorities vow to bring the perpetrators to justice.
