Child Protection Unit opens in Battagram to safeguard children’s rights

KP govt and UNICEF launch initiative to prevent abuse, ensure welfare of children in the region

In a major step towards the protection and promotion of children’s rights, a Child Protection Unit (CPU) was officially inaugurated in Battagram. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Minister for Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment, Qasim Ali Shah, who attended as the chief guest.

The event was also attended by Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Taj Mohammad Khan Tarand, Additional Secretary for Social Welfare and Special Women Empowerment Umrah Khan, Chief Child Protection Officer KP Ejaz Mohammad Khan, UNICEF Child Protection Specialist Suhail Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Battagram Asif Ali Khan, District Police Officer Battagram, and other officials from relevant departments.

During their speeches, the distinguished guests emphasized the critical role the CPU will play in ensuring the protection of children, upholding their rights, and securing their future. They noted that the unit would not only help prevent abuse, exploitation, and violence against children but also foster collaboration among parents, teachers, and social institutions.

Established through a joint initiative of UNICEF and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the CPU is designed to function as a proactive local center dedicated to child welfare. Experts from various fields will work together to support the well-being of children at the grassroots level.

The establishment of the Child Protection Unit is being hailed as a positive and forward-looking step towards a safer and brighter future for children in the region.
