University of Shangla shifts faculty and staff to visiting

The move was authorized under Sections 6(v), 6(xiv), and 11(5)(d & e) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act 2012.

The University of Shangla has decided to reappoint its teaching staff on a visiting basis and non-teaching staff on daily wages, effective from October 2, 2024. The decision was made during the Syndicate’s fourth meeting on March 14, 2025, as the university faces severe financial constraints due to a lack of funding from both the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government and the federal government.

The move was authorized under Sections 6(v), 6(xiv), and 11(5)(d & e) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act 2012. The university stated that the step was necessary to ensure the continuity of academic activities despite the financial challenges. The matter will also be presented in the upcoming Senate meeting for further discussion.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Archives & Libraries Department has been asked to secure funding from the provincial government, while the university administration will engage with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to explore federal support. The Registrar’s Office has been directed to issue new appointment orders in line with the decision.

The shift to visiting and daily-wage positions has raised concerns among faculty and staff over job security and financial stability.
