Three died in sucide blast at Darul Uloom Haqqania

At least three people, including JUI-S leader Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, were killed, while 20 others injured

A suicide bomb blast hit a religious school in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday prayers, killing six people, including JUI-S leader Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, and injuring at least 15 others. The explosion happened in the main prayer hall of Darul Uloom Haqqania, and police confirmed it was a suicide attack. Three policemen were also injured.
Adviser to KP Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif confirmed in a statement that Maulana Hamidul Haq was among the dead.
“He was a great religious scholar whose immense services to Islam are unforgettable,” he said. “Maulana Hamidul Haq’s martyrdom is an irreparable.
Rescue teams quickly arrived, took the injured to hospitals, and the KP government declared an emergency in all hospitals. The Chief Minister ordered the best treatment for the wounded and an immediate investigation.
Maulana Haqqani, the son of Maulana Samiul Haq, was the head of the seminary and a former National Assembly member. He had also led religious meetings with the Taliban in Afghanistan. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Many leaders, including the President and Prime Minister, condemned the attack and called it a cowardly act of terrorism. The Taliban government in Afghanistan also blamed the attack on ISIS.
KP has faced similar attacks before. In January 2023, a blast in a mosque in Peshawar killed over 100 people, mostly policemen. Another attack in 2022 targeted a mosque in Peshawar’s old city.
