Shangla medics protest to seek safety gear

SHANGLA: The doctors and paramedics of tehsil headquarters hospital Puran staged a demonstration here on Monday to demand provision of protective gear and other stuff for dealing with Covid-19 emergency.

The protesting doctors and paramedics gathered in Aloch Bazaar and chanted slogans against the government for its failure to provide safety kits to them.

Dr Ghafoor Khan, the medical superintendent of the hospital, said there was a coronavirus patient and several suspected cases in the hospital but they had nothing to keep themselves safe from the infection.

He said that health workers would be able to protect and save lives of other people when they themselves would be protected from the virus.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Imran Hussain Ranjha told journalists that personal protective equipment and other items were sent to the hospital. He said that they had received 100 kits from the government and 50 were sent to Puran hospital.

The items included 1,250 masks, 29 N-95 masks, 23 sanitisers, six liquid soaps, 50 goggles, 68 long coats, 29 UTM, 700 gloves, six pairs of shoes, eight gowns, 200 caps and 16 bed sheets.
