Shangla’s two police stations gets lady Muharars

SHANGLA: Shangla police has deployed two lady Muhrars at the major police stations of the district, the public warmly welcomed to the police decision for the deployment of lady Muhrars for the facility of women complainants.

District Police Officer, Shangla Malak Ijaz deployed two lady head constables Bi Bi Zar and Ishrat Begum as Madad-e-Muhrar to serve women complainants.

DPO, Malak Ijaz told Dawn this regard that it was the first-ever step taken by Shangla police in the history to deployed lady staff office staff at the police station.

“In our Pashtun culture, first women feel hesitation in complaining about her issue and then scared in expressing the complaints before male officials and cannot express properly whatever she wanted to say. It was a longstanding problem for the district women, but now the women will be able to report their complaints to lady staff,” the DPO said.

He said, the deployed lady officials are qualified and completed their courses required for the position and they may go ahead over time and performance.

The DPO, added that Shangla police department has been facing shortage of lady police staff, however, he would deploy lady Madad-e-Muhrars at all police stations of the district as well as in the upcoming recruitment more ladies to be appointed in the police force.

Bi Bi Zar, who belongs to Chitral and serving as head constable at Bisham police station and now deployed as Madad Muharar, said that it was her desire to serve women as the region’s women suppressed and ignored ever unable to report to police their complaints due to absence of lady staff at the police stations.

“I am well aware of the local culture, customs as serving here for the last five years so I can deal with the local women in well-manner to and a woman can understand the woman words, so I will passionately and honestly perform my duty as Madad-e-Muhrar,” She said and added that she is remained cadet topper in her policing courses and devoted to her job and wish to be promoted to higher positions in the police department on performance.

The lady police official said that she has strong support of her spouse as well as parents and local male seniors who extends their cooperate with her in office work.

Replying a question, she said that she can cope with any situation as she received different police training to combat criminals in any situation.

Ishrat Begum, who deployed at police station Alpuri, said that local women had warmly welcomed when she sent to PS Alpuri as Madad-e-Muhrar also her lady constable colleagues as the first time in the Shangla history a lady head constables got the position.

“Mostly women come to the police stations complained regarding domestic violence as in some parts men treat women harshly, however, I have pledged myself to help every victim female come to her as complainant,” She said.

The lady police official said her women friends contacted her and expressed their satisfaction and joys for her deployment as Muhrar as they would be able to express her complaint before woman police in the police station while recording statements.

She thanked her officers for the trust by giving the utmost responsibility to serve, especially females.
