The Cricket World Cup 2019 is being played in the United Kingdom and Wales. 12th match of this tournament was played between England and Bangladesh on Friday June 8, at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, which England won by 106 runs easily.
It was a confusing toss for both sides seeing some greenery on the track. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to field first and it proved to be very bad decision. England scored 386 runs for 6 wickets.
England’s opener Jason Roy scored 153 runs with help of 14 fours and 5 fabulous sixes. Jos Buttler scored 64 on 44 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes and Jonny Bairstow scored 51 on 50 balls. Captain Eoin Morgan 35 on 33, Liam Plunkett 27 on 9 and Joe Root scored 21 on 29 balls. J. Bairstow and J. Roy created 128 runs in opening partnership. Muhammad Saifuddin and Mehidy Hassan took 2 wickets each.
It was the very bad situation in game came very early for Bangladesh, when Soumya Sarkar out on 2 runs in 3rd over. Bangladesh’s batsmen did not create any good partnership. Only one century partnership was created between Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim for third wicket.
Shakib tried to resist and achieved to target but other batsmen did not help him. Shakib scored 121 runs with 12 fours and one six on 119 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 44 runs. Mahmudullah, Mosadek Hossain, Tamim Iqbal Mehidy Hasan scored 28, 26, 19 and 12 respectively. Five batsmen could not score in double digits and whole team out on 280 in 49th over. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer took 3 wickets each, Mark Wood 2 and Liam Plumkett and Adil Rashid took 1 each.
The Sophia Gardens pitch is green, grassy and bouncy. It has been a bowling paradise in the recent past as the last matches at this venue were low-scoring encounters. In first match on this pitch, New Zealand bowled out Sri Lanka for a total of 136 before defeating them without losing a single wicket. In the second match, which played between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, the rain-hit the match, Afghanistan restricted Sri Lanka to a 201 but some poor batting from Afghanistan lose the match by 34 runs by DLS method.
Usually team management strives to give chance to fast bowlers in this situation, but Bangladesh team did not have any regular fast bowler. Other side, England dropped Moin Ali and gave chance to Liam Plunkett. It was a big difference between England and Bangladesh. Bangladesh did not use their bowlers properly and did not show any seriousness and responsibility in batting. Planning is the key difference between those teams.
We can say that it was just another day of English batsmen, who once again managed to put on a huge score on the board and their bowlers did exactly what was needed to help them record their second win. After this win, England occupied the second position on the point table.
