Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious viral disease, which mainly affects young children. Pakistan is one of three remaining polio-endemic countries in the world, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria. However, since the launch of the Pakistan’s Polio Eradication Programme in 1994, there has been a massive decline in polio cases in Pakistan from approximately 20,000 every year.
Have a look on a story of how the polio worker in her area was continuing to work despite severe weather. The picture shows a team of lady workers in the remote area in Astor, making her ways through the piles of snow in the harsh, cold winter of Gilgit Baltistan to vaccinate a newborn in their fight to eradicate the epidemic from Pakistan.
Polio vaccinators faces number of challenges including harsh weather, societal problems and very low payment i.e 2400 for four days of duty.

A country – where a number of polio workers have been assassinated, female workers have reportedly been subjected to harassment – but the fight continues.
Being women, they face numerous challenges but they travel long distances to make sure that every child is protected from polio, no matter how they do challenging job.
Highly commendable and very necessary. Respect for these very committed women
Please take a moment to appreciate the hard work of Pakistan’s polio workers especially women, government at least encourage them with rewards.
I myself pay rich tribute to these such brave women, those are struggling against the deadly disease eradication from the Pakistan.
